Senior Ultrasound Sonographer

Overview

This is a position for a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The role involves obtaining relevant patient information, preparing patients and equipment for imaging procedures, demonstrating ability to self-critique exams and identify technical issues, meeting physical demands of transferring and transporting patients, and maintaining active RDMS credential(s) as per the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography’s criteria.

Specific Skills
  • Graduate of a formal accredited ultrasound training program in an approved school
  • Must have flexibility in scheduling, ability to rotate shifts and coverage for weekends and holidays and on-call shifts. This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and variable shifts per department needs.
  • Requires ARDMS credentials in Abdomen and OB/Gyn specialties at minimum.
  • BLS -  Basic Life Support.
  • Requires (2-5) years experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
  • Maintain ARDMS credential(s) according to the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography's criteria
Responsible For
  • Obtain appropriate patient clinical information from requesting physician and/or service prior to performing exam.
  • Prepare patient for imaging.
  • Prepare room and equipment prior to imaging and after completion of exam.
  • Demonstrate appropriate self-critique of exams to include ability to recognize sub-optimal techniques and equipment malfunctions.
  • Meet physical requirements to perform all aspects of diagnostic sonography studies in the inpatient as well as outpatient settings, including but not limited to: performing portable exams, transferring and transporting gurney and wheelchair
  • Maintain RDMS credential(s) according to the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography's criteria.
